On August 31, it was reported that the factory shipments of South Korean chip manufacturers in July suffered the first drop in nearly three years, highlighting the weak demand for semiconductors as a barometer of the global economy. Before that, factors such as the epidemic once led to a tight supply of global chips, creating an industrial boom period.
According to a statement issued by the National Bureau of statistics of South Korea on Wednesday, the country‘s semiconductor shipments fell 22.7% in July compared with the same period last year, and increased by 5.1% in June. In July, the National Semiconductor inventory of South Korea was still high, with an increase of 80% over the same period of last year, which was the same as that of last month. In today‘s global chip supply chain, Asian manufacturers such as TSMC and Samsung Electronics play an important role.
Data show that chip production in South Korea slowed down for the fourth consecutive month in July, indicating that major manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix are adjusting their output to reflect the cooling demand and the increase in inventory. With the world economy increasingly relying on electronic products and online services, semiconductors have become key components. During the epidemic, in order to minimize the risk of infection, many people turned to remote office and remote education, leading to a surge in chip demand.
