    Linear voltage regulator (LDO) means low dropout. In recent years, some manufacturers have launched high input voltage LDO, with the highest input voltage even reaching 80V. In the case of high pressure difference, the efficiency of LDO must be very low. Generally speaking, such a high input voltage seems to be more suitable for DC / DC switching power supply. So, what are the advantages and application fields of high input voltage LDO?

    The main characteristics of LDO are the minimum of peripheral components, the minimum of output noise, the minimum of static current, the high PSRR and the low price. When the ripple and noise in the output voltage are required to be particularly small, the micro power consumption LDO is undoubtedly the most suitable when the input and output voltage difference is small and the output current is small. The biggest disadvantage of LDO should be low efficiency and can only reduce voltage output.

The unit price of 1000 pieces of these two products is more than US $2, which is much higher than that of ordinary LDO.

    Recently, Texas Instruments (TI) launched a negative pressure LDO, the model is tps7a30. It is generally used with the previously launched positive pressure LDO tps7a49. The target applications include test equipment, industry, communication and medical treatment. The unit price of tps7a30 and tps7a49 is $1.5 and $1.1 respectively, which are also expensive.
