On May 17, 2023, Dalian Lianda Holdings, a leading international semiconductor component distributor dedicated to the Asia Pacific market, announced that its subsidiary, Shiping, will launch a BLDC motor induction free square wave drive solution based on NXP LPC845 chips.

Driven by the trend of smaller size and higher power, the speed of the motor continues to climb. And with the continuous improvement of motor performance requirements in the industry, BLDC motors with higher energy efficiency and longer lifespan have received widespread attention. Under this trend, DaLian DaShiPing launched the BLDC motor sensorless square wave drive scheme based on NXP LPC845 chip. This scheme supports the sensorless high-speed motor with Counter-electromotive force as square wave, and its electronic speed can reach up to 73000 RPM, which is suitable for applications such as vacuum cleaners and fans with light load and low cost.

In terms of the selection of the main controller, this solution adopts the LPC845 MCU under NXP, which is based on Arm ® Cortex ®- The M0+core runs at a frequency of up to 30MHz and integrates 64KB of flash memory and 16KB of SRAM internally, meeting motor control requirements. In terms of performance configuration, the LPC845 MCU uses a free running oscillator (FRO) as the clock source, which has excellent power efficiency in low current mode. Not only that, the product also has a rich range of supporting peripherals, including 1 CRC engine and 4 I ² C-bus interface, 5 UARTs, 2 SPI interfaces, capacitive touch interface, multi rate timer, self wake-up timer, SCTimer/PWM, universal 32-bit counter/timer, advanced DMA, 12 bit ADC, 10 bit DAC, analog comparator, input mode matching engine, I/O ports with configurable functions through switch matrix, and 54 universal GPIOs, allowing any peripheral function to be assigned to any one of the GPIOs, Thus achieving low-cost PCBs.

In addition to the core MCU, this scheme also applies the high-performance products of other partners of the University, including Silijie SY8501FCC DC/DC converter, Simbond Microelectronics SGM2212 LDO regulator and SGM8632 operational amplifier, Onsemi NCP81075 driver IC, Weishi WSLP2512 resistor and Nexperia Semiconductor BUK765RO-100E MOS tube. Thanks to these excellent products, this solution can balance the relationship between power, performance, and price, and help engineers create more ideal BLDC motor drive products in a short period of time.
